What’s Different This Time Around?

I find it interesting how things change over time. Take education for example. When I was a teen in High School, I hated education. To me it was boring. After all, when in my life was I ever going to need to recite the Declaration of Independence, or calculate the square root of anything… EVER? But then I got older.. So why am I in college at my age? The answer is simple. I found my own lack of technical knowledge in the things that interest me to be disturbing. Furthermore, what I realized was, education IS important for one main reason. Education allows you to comprehend and explore your passions.. Without it, true knowledge becomes unattainable. Unfortunately, I had to find this out the hard way. When I speak of education, I am not talking about core curriculum subjects like Math and History. I am not even pointing to higher institutions. I am talking about the nuanced knowledge that is inherent in a passion.. Such as Music, Writing, Engineering, or Art. There are many talented people out there in the real world, but what separates the dreamer and the talented from the successful few who live their passion? Education. Sooner or later everyone must learn something from someone. No matter how talented a person is, technical skill is still required. Fortunately, it is never to late to learn, and that is one lesson I have learned well.
